Set goals based on performance and energy impact
Page weight grows by accretion: no single change looks expensive. A budget turns that invisible drift into a visible, reviewable decision.
How to satisfy it
- Pick a transfer budget per template (a content page rarely needs more than 500 kB).
- Measure it in CI, not by memory, and fail the build when a change exceeds it.
- Re-measure after launch, since third-party tags are usually added later.
- Track the trend rather than a single number: direction matters more than any one reading.
