Guidelines · WSG 3.1

Set goals based on performance and energy impact

Page weight grows by accretion: no single change looks expensive. A budget turns that invisible drift into a visible, reviewable decision.

How to satisfy it

  • Pick a transfer budget per template (a content page rarely needs more than 500 kB).
  • Measure it in CI, not by memory, and fail the build when a change exceeds it.
  • Re-measure after launch, since third-party tags are usually added later.
  • Track the trend rather than a single number: direction matters more than any one reading.
